With a history spanning thousands of years, Beijing is home to some of the world’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks. In 2024, the city received special recognition as its central axis, a 7.8-kilometer stretch representing over 700 years of urban planning and imperial design, was inscribed as the eighth site on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This landmark symbolizes China’s traditional imperial layout and cosmic harmony, further solidifying Beijing’s reputation as a global cultural capital.
Beijing’s Charm Showcased in Budapest
On March 7, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism hosted the “Hello, Beijing!” cultural and tourism promotion event in Budapest. The gathering attracted nearly 100 attendees, including tourism professionals, journalists, and travel bloggers.
The event highlighted Beijing’s rich cultural and tourism offerings, including its eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. A key point of interest for attendees was the presentation on direct flights between Budapest and Beijing, with representatives from Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and Hainan Airlines providing insights into these travel opportunities.
New Tourism Innovations
The “Hello, Beijing!” event also introduced new initiatives aimed at enhancing the travel experience for international visitors. Travelers will benefit from streamlined customs clearance through a simplified one-stop authorization and border control process.
The newly launched Beijing Services airport assistance points help international visitors with payments, transportation, and communication, while innovations in banking and SIM card accessibility further simplify travel. Additionally, transit passengers can enjoy complimentary half-day city tours, which include guided experiences, transportation, and internet access.
Chang Lin, a senior official at the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, emphasized Beijing’s welcoming spirit and cultural richness, stating, “Beijing, a city of hospitality and beauty, is not only China’s capital but also a world-renowned cultural hub and a dynamic, international metropolis. We promise that if you visit Beijing, you will return home with wonderful memories. Beijing awaits you!”
Cultural Exhibitions and Traditional Craft Workshops
Beyond the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Beijing’s cultural heritage. A photography exhibition showcased the city’s breathtaking cultural landmarks, while traditional Chinese craft workshops proved highly popular.
Guests participated in the creation of the Chinese zodiac figurines, admired the intricate artistry of silk doll workshops, and enjoyed authentic jasmine tea, a renowned Beijing specialty. The highlight of the event was a lucky draw, where the grand prize was a three-night, four-day trip to Beijing.
Strengthening Ties Between Beijing and Budapest
Cultural and tourism exchanges between China and Hungary continue to grow, as evidenced by the success of the event. The visa-free travel policy for Hungarian tourists has significantly increased interest in Beijing as a travel destination.
Speaking at the event, Chang Lin noted, “These visa-free measures have made personal and cultural exchanges between our two countries much more convenient. Now, all you need is a passport and a plane ticket for a spontaneous trip to China!”
